‘RHOA’ RECAP: Kandi & Todd’s Marital Drama Put On Blast During Cast Trip To NYC!

This week on a brand-new episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Marlo Hampton meets with her builder Patrick to review the blueprint for her new house. Marlo’s mostly concerned about her closet space, but for now, all Marlo’s sitting on is dirt. Shereé Whitfield and Kenya Moore pull up to support Marlo, but Marlo never misses a chance to shade the girls. She calls Shereé and Kenya “baby builders” and talks about how much time it took them to complete their houses. In Marlo’s confessional, she admits to wanting Kenya and Shereé’s advice but hopes to learn from their successes versus their mistakes. Patrick greets the ladies and Marlo explains that Patrick had to take away 1500 feet, to help Marlo’s budget.
The ladies view the layout of Marlo’s dream home, and we find out Marlo has a floor all to herself and her closet is bigger than her master bedroom, SMH! Kenya questions Patrick about the floorplan and the construction happening next door, and it’s clear Kenya knows a lot. Marlo explains to Patrick that she’d like a grand driveway and a privacy fence, and Patrick vows to make it happen before excusing himself. Once Patrick leaves, the ladies give Marlo the blues for living so far out and Marlo says she’s a Buckhead girl but can’t afford to live in Buckhead. Somehow, the conversation focused on Marlo and how she makes her money, and Kenya had to remind Marlo that’s how she arrived on the scene — straight fronting and being flashy. Marlo tells Kenya that she’s full of sh*t, and Kenya defends herself while staying calm.
Marlo must’ve realized she can save this fight for later because Marlo calmed down enough to explain why her feelings were hurt. Kenya gives Marlo props on her new house and Shereé questions whether Kenya will see Marc while in New York. Kenya swiftly denies going to visit her ex, and Shereé plans to meet Tyrone in New York. Kenya questions how Shereé feels about traveling with Drew Sidora and Shereé didn’t bat an eye. Shereé doesn’t know why Drew’s coming for her and thinks Drew must need some excitement in her life. Kenya doesn’t understand where Drew is coming from, especially with the current drama Drew and Ralph are experiencing.
Marlo thinks Drew deflects and Shereé thinks Drew’s good at overtalking others. Kenya didn’t like how Drew attacked Shereé at Brooklyn’s party and hopes to settle things once everyone is in New York. At Kandi and Todd’s, the two decide to take a walk together to enjoy the weather and check in with each other. Todd’s stressed because he feels that he doesn’t have enough support, and Kandi feels the same way. Kandi’s relieved that ticket sales for ‘Thoughts of a Colored Man’ have improved and Kandi suggests Todd invite the husbands to attend the play. Todd suggests visiting his condo in Jersey and Kandi’s mood changes instantly. Kandi doesn’t feel comfortable going to a place Todd used to share with his ex. Todd reassures Kandi that the condo is theirs, and Kandi quickly asks where her key is.
Todd gets frustrated and tells Kandi she always wants it her way, and Todd just wants to compromise. Kandi wants to be able to go out of town and go to a hotel without worrying about having to clean up. Todd wants Kandi to go with the flow sometimes, but Kandi is acting very spoiled and unwilling to bend for Todd. Kandi doesn’t relent and is done talking as the two finish their walk, in silence. At Drew’s house, she’s getting ready for a counseling session with Ralph as their many assistants gather the kids. Anthony, the messy assistant, is on probation, and Drew is giving him a chance to clean up his act before further consequences. Dr. Ken arrives and Drew does this awkward laugh while stating she isn’t going to cry today. As they make their way to the couch, we find out Ralph’s been sleeping in their son’s room. This causes Drew’s alarm bells to go off since this usually means they’re in a bad space.
The session starts and Drew explains the dinner that Ralph threw for her. Ralph admitted to not receiving Drew’s appreciation throughout the night. Ralph thinks Drew is insatiable and ungrateful. As Drew explains it’s not about material things, Ralph says he gave Drew steak and lobster but all she deserved was a Lunchable. Drew looked so broken, but Dr. Ken didn’t come to her defense at all! Instead, Dr. Ken tells Drew to live in the moment instead of holding Ralph accountable for his actions. I think they need a new therapist, but I digress. Dr. Ken gives the Pittmans an assignment to not argue for thirty days, and they’re both on board to try. The next day the ladies are packing when they get a sexy surprise. Kandi’s nephew Patrick and his fiancée Safari show up with sexy gifts in sexy costumes! Sanya loves it but Kenya would rather Kandi pay a bill than give her sex toys, LOL.
Marlo and Shereé missed out on Kandi’s sexy surprise, so Kenya and Drew decided to fill them in on the excitement. Shereé wonders if Kandi’s gift has anything to do with the play and Marlo shows off her underwear to Drew. It’s the day of Kandi’s trip and Kandi has rented out a sprinter for everyone to ride to the airport together. It may be five in the morning, but Kandi doesn’t want anyone missing their flights. Drew and Ralph arrive first and soon, everyone’s ready to head to the airport. Kenya’s annoyed because she doesn’t have a date for the trip, but Kandi told the group that everyone was invited. Shereé isn’t paying Drew any attention as Shereé says in her confessional that Drew’s lame, LOL.
The crew makes it to New York without incident and everyone’s excited for what’s to come. The crew checks into the hotel and Kandi have food set up for everyone. The group goes outside to eat, and Sheree tells the group about Tyrone’s visit later. To start off the trip, Kandi wants the couples to compete for a Penthouse with whoever has the best sex story. Sanya talked about having sex on a plane, Marlo made up a story, Shereé did the thang at the Ritz Carlton, and Ralph got down in the ocean. Ultimately, Kenya wins the Penthouse with her extravagant hunting story that no one had the energy to fact check, LOL. Afterwards, the crew thanks Kandi and head up to their rooms to relax.
Sanya Richards-Ross is getting her makeup done while Aaron Ross watches from the bed. Aaron’s enjoying being back in New York and Sanya hopes the good energy last throughout the trip. Sanya catches Aaron up on the drama between Shereé and Drew, and Sanya’s beginning to question Drew’s true character. Sanya wants to know why Drew’s having such a hard time letting Anthony go. Sanya thinks that if someone has an assistant that is so messy, then the person must be equally as messy. You’re onto something there, Sanya!
Shereé pops into Marlo’s room as Marlo’s getting glammed up for the day. Shereé informs Marlo they need to be ready by four o’clock, and Marlo wonders if they’re going to dinner or to Todd’s empty condo. Shereé tells Marlo that the plan is to visit the condo and then go to dinner, but Marlo takes this chance to start rumors about Todd. Marlo asks Shereé if she thinks Todd is sneaking around on Kandi. Shereé doesn’t answer and throws it back to Marlo who denies knowing anything. Marlo thinks something’s wrong with Kandi’s sexual appetite and suggests Kandi may need therapy, SMH. Marlo would rather discuss investing in the business and Shereé wants to know who Marlo thinks is the second freakiest. Marlo crowns the Pittmans as the next freakiest, and Ralph’s love-bombing Drew as he rubs her feet.
Drew tells Ralph that she thinks Shereé’s being nice so far and reiterated that she thinks Shereé told her friend Fatum to talk about Ralph. Drew isn’t going to bring up the rumors because she thinks they’re ludicrous, and Ralph warns Drew to watch Shereé. The crew head to Todd’s condo as Shereé checks in on Tyrone in the sprinter van. In the van, Kandi voices her concerns about the condo and doesn’t like that Todd parties like he’s in college while visiting Jersey. According to Shereé, the streets have been talking, so this doesn’t surprise her one bit. Todd shares his point of view with the crew, and we’re beginning to see where the cracks are in their relationship. Kandi’s face is turned up as she enters the condo, and it’s no surprise that Kandi’s not feeling the space. Kenya can see the potential and offers Todd some advice on possible renovations. The crew understands why Todd wants to keep the condo, but Kandi is firm in her belief that it should go!
It’s dinner time as the crew arrives at a Cuban restaurant with a stunning view. Kandi set up a pre-selected menu for everyone and the crew is impressed. After the orders are taken, Sanya realizes Drew and Kandi aren’t wearing their wedding rings and calls them out on it. Kandi says she doesn’t wear it like that, although Todd is proudly sporting his ring. Drew blames not wearing her ring on fluctuating weight and issues with Ralph. Drew shares the new agreement Dr. Ken assigned to them, and the crew wishes them luck. Marlo asks what happened with the assistant, and Ralph reveals he fired her. Kenya asks Drew what’s wrong and Drew admits to still being emotionally drained from the experience. Ralph asks the table when Drew will “finally get over it” and Kenya says only time and reassuring behavior will help.
Kandi calls Ralph out and tells him she doesn’t understand how he can’t see what the issue is. Ralph continues not owning his part and tries to gaslight the table before Kenya steps in. Ralph’s behavior is reminding Kenya of Marc and the issues they had around communication and she’s not having it today! Kenya tells Ralph that Drew doesn’t want to feel invalidated and the table agrees. Ralph continues putting his foot in his mouth as Drew explains her thought process. Kenya calls Ralph an a**hole and continues coming to Drew’s defense. Ralph laughs nervously and Kenya becomes annoyed with Ralph’s antics.
Marlo blames Drew for allowing Ralph to treat her that way, and Kenya brings up Drew’s beef with Shereé. Drew doesn’t see that she’s wrong when it comes to Shereé and Shereé drops a bomb on the table as soon as “evidence” is mentioned. Shereé pulls out her cellphone and revealed text messages from Anthony, where he claimed Ralph is gay while sending pictures of Ralph and Dennis McKinley! The entire table is silent as Todd chugs a beer and we get the end credits. Whew! This season just started and there’s drama galore!
